27.5 inch as a new tyre size
The first mountain bikes had 26 inch tyres, which was the undisputed standard for decades. The small wheels were extremely manoeuvrable and easy to control. Due to the changed use of the bikes, away from terrain and towards more tour-oriented rides, the demands on the tyres have changed as well. The extremely successful 29-inch tyre (with its extremely smooth running) was introduced and quickly set against the new standard "650B", i. e. 27.5 inches. The mixed size offers a comparable running smoothness and is much more manoeuvrable than the large wheels. Especially for offroad rides, trails and slightly smaller riders, this intermediate size is the optimal compromise.
Electrically driven for more fun
The logical step to equip these widely used bikes with an electric motor came quickly. In the meantime, the manufacturers are relying exclusively on a mid-mounted engine that enables a perfect centre of gravity. Together with the battery and an adapted frame geometry, a 27.5 inch bike gives you an extremely precise and safe bike. The consistent further development of the engines and rechargeable batteries means that today, ranges and performance levels can be achieved that were previously unthinkable. The drive uphill is at least as much fun as downhill. The many adjustment possibilities, modes and functions of the display (up to navigation) make these bikes highly modern companions in everyday life.
Wide range of components
The manufacturers use the best and long established models of the regular series for these new series. This ensures that the bike itself functions optimally. Similar to muscular powered bikes, all options are open to the rider. From the inexpensive entry level hardtail for tours, the way to work and the weekend tour to the high performance bike with carbon frame and Di2 gearshift, no wishes remain unfulfilled. The new rechargeable batteries and motors are also visually better adapted to the sporty requirements. Meanwhile, the electrical components are almost invisible and weigh only a fraction of what they were at the beginning of this technology. Combined with the fresh colours and the sporty look of the bikes, you get a piece of sports equipment that disproves the formerly dusty reputation of the e-bikes.
