As a result, the weight and integration of the battery have improved dramatically. This means that a motor-driven fully is getting closer and closer to a normal full-suspension mountain bike. Of course, the technology still weighs a little more. However, weight is not all bad. It provides more stability when riding downhill and the powerful motor is an extreme help when riding uphill. In the future, work will continue on reducing weight and batteries and motors will be integrated more and more into the frame geometry. For purists and weight fanatics, the sportier model without a motor is probably the better choice.
Fully vs Hardtail: What is the difference between an e-bike fully and an e-bike hardtail?
The difference between the two categories lies in the suspension. A hardtail combines an unsuspended frame with a suspension fork. Fullys (also called full-suspension bikes) have a fully-suspended frameset. Hardtails are quite a bit heavier than fullys. This is mainly due to the rigid frame of the hardtail. With older full-suspension bikes, pedaling exerted a force on the chain and the suspension. The bouncing of the suspension created a spongy ride. Nowadays and with the new full-suspension bikes, this is no longer the case. Modern full-suspension bikes have sophisticated geometry and intelligent elements built into the suspension, so there is no more loss of power. Probably the biggest deciding factor is the budget. Full-suspension e-bikes are in a higher price segment due to the additional suspension. With a hardtail, you get away a little cheaper, save weight and are basically a little more agile on the trail. If you need more damping off-road, then you are more likely to opt for a bike with all-round suspension.

E-bike full-suspension frame made of carbon or aluminum – which frame is right for me?
The e-bike fully frame is made almost exclusively from very light aluminum or carbon, in order to save as much weight as possible. The motor, battery and cabling are integrated into this frame and protected from impacts by crumple zones and special protective covers. Four-piston brakes combined with high-quality 180 to 200 millimeter brake discs are also essential for safe riding. When choosing the wheel size, the intended use should also be considered. The advantage of 29-inch wheels is that the larger radius results in better rolling behavior. This makes them ideal for tours on easy to moderately difficult terrain, where they can easily compensate for minor unevenness. However, due to the larger circumference, a loss of maneuverability must be accepted. This, in turn, is fully provided by the 27.5-inch wheels. So if you prefer to ride on more demanding, winding surfaces, you should opt for the smaller version in combination with a longer suspension travel. Especially for the drifters among us, a 27.5+ wheel can also be chosen for the rear, which is slightly wider than the 27.5 inch wheel, in combination with a 29 inch wheel at the front for a smoother ride.

How much suspension travel does my e-bike fully need? - The full-suspension eMTB!
Suspension at the front and rear not only provides more traction, but also makes the bike much more robust on all types of terrain. The suspension travel ranges from 120mm to 200mm. 120mm-140mm is recommended for extensive tours on easy to moderately difficult terrain. For more demanding terrain, a suspension travel of 150mm to 170mm is recommended. For particularly steep descents and very rough terrain, 180mm-200mm suspension travel is recommended. The result is: the rougher the terrain you want to ride on, the greater the suspension travel should be. The dampers and springs are made of different materials. Elastomers, for example, provide sufficient suspension without excessive investment, but may lose elasticity over time. Air damping is in high demand for the damping system due to the weight. Using steel springs in combination with oil damping means increased maintenance, but the e-bike does not need to be retrofitted with expensive suspension or damping elements.

Air or coil?
Air
With air suspension, it is possible to fine-tune the damping. This means that you can set the right pressure even with heavy luggage. The weight of the driver can also be ideally balanced thanks to the air suspension. They are also lighter than steel springs. The disadvantage is that it generates more heat and requires more seals, so it may require more maintenance and care.

Steel

What types of e-bike fullys are there?

An e-bike fully also needs a lot of accessories to be allowed on the road in Germany. Some regulations can be a bit vague, but one thing is clear. Problems arise when traffic controls are scrutinized and the lighting is not approved and certified. That is why we have provided you with a detailed list of what you should consider in order to be legally and, above all, safely on the road at all times.
What does a roadworthy e-bike fully need?

Which reflectors should be attached to my e-bike fully?
On your E-Fully, you need a white reflector at the front and a red one at the back (large-area reflector marked "Z"). Make sure that the reflectors are mounted at least 60 cm above the road.
The spokes and pedals of your bike must also be equipped with reflectors. Red reflectors must be fitted to the pedals at the front and rear. The spokes have yellow reflectors or the tires have white reflective strips.
How do I charge my e-bike battery?
We recommend that you follow these steps in the following order when charging your e-bike battery:
- Plug the charger into the socket.
- Then you can plug the e-bike battery into the charger.
- Monitor the charging process so that you know when the battery is full or if an error is displayed.
- Unplug the power adapter from the socket as soon as your e-bike battery is fully charged.
- Then you can disconnect the charging cable from your battery or bike.

You do not need a license for e-bikes ("pedelecs") with assistance motors that go up to 25 km/h.
However, you do need a class AM driving license if your e-fully goes 45 km/h. An A1 driving license is required for e-bikes that go faster than 45 km/h.

How do I maintain or care for my e-bike fully?
Let's face it, how nice is it to arrive on a shiny, brand-new bike that looks like new? Nothing beats knowing that your rear derailleur, pedals, Bowden cables and suspension fork are in order.
You should definitely not do this!
No matter what the internet would have you believe, no matter how tempting it may seem, we strongly advise against using the following:
- The ever-popular pressure washer: With the power of a pressure washer, you can remove all the dirt in no time, but you'll also remove the lubricating layers. What's more, the motor could potentially be pumped full of water. Seals can fail, there is a risk of short circuits and dirt particles can even be carried where they shouldn't be.
- Grease-eating cleaning agents: degreasers attack the vital lubricating layers.
- The steam cleaner: the very sensitive electronics will suffer, the chain and the bearing will be stripped of their grease, which will eventually lead to corrosion that you will quickly notice.
- All kinds of nasty grease: Remember, not all grease is the same. Use grease that can creep, otherwise you'll just end up contaminating "something greasy" because that's where all the dirt gets stuck.
- Aggressive cleaning agents: It may look impressive when dirt magically disappears, but the use of aggressive agents not only attacks seals and plastics, but also destroys much more: Only use the right products for e-bikes.
The procedure
- Remove detachable displays and other detachable electronics, including the battery. You can cover any other fixed electronic accessories with foil or cloth.
- Start with the wheels. They like water with a little car shampoo. Clean the wheel from the hub to the rim with a sponge. Then rinse with water.
- Do the same with the frame. If the frame is very dirty, let the cleaning agent soak in. Soaked dirt is easier to remove.
- Once you have removed all the dirt, you can take care of the chain links, which you have to lubricate properly again. Simply apply a thin layer of chain oil suitable for e-bikes to the chain. To prevent the oil from reaching the sprockets or brakes, it is best to start in the middle of the lower chain run.
- Note: One drop per chain link is sufficient. Turn the crank and shift through all the gears so that everything is evenly distributed. Finally, you can wipe off any excess lubricant with a clean cloth.
- Suspension forks also need a small, wafer-thin layer of high-quality suspension grease from time to time. When applied sparingly, very few dirt particles will stick to it.
- Wipe the disc brake with a dry or damp cloth. To ensure braking performance, please make sure that no grease adheres.
- As with the seatpost clamp, the threads (except those treated with special grease) should be free of grease. You can occasionally grease brake cables on rim brakes.
- Make sure that the battery contacts are completely dry before you put the battery back in.
- Check the electronics and the gear system after cleaning.
- Maintain the chassis: If the wiper seal and the fork stanchion are very dusty, remove the dirt with a damp microfiber cloth.

Maintenance
- Tighten screws: Check all the screws on your e-bike and tighten them. The stem and handlebar screws are particularly important. Make sure that both the quick release and the saddle are secure. Also tighten the wheels/tires. This article in our magazine contains all the important torque settings for your bike.
- Check your tires: Do you have enough air in your tires? A good way to check is to let the air sit for a while. Soaked dirt can be removed more easily.
- Once you have removed all the dirt, you can take care of the chain links, which you have to properly lubricate again. To do this, simply use a very thin stand pump with a built-in manometer (pressure gauge) suitable for e-bikes. Remove the valve cap and check the tire pressure. Tires lose air all the time, so you will probably need to add air. The correct tire pressure is printed on the side of the tire.
- Check the spokes: the spokes must be taut and you should not be able to move them. Meanwhile, you can check your tire for 8s.
