Road bikes are the purest and most beautiful form of a bike. Speed, manoeuvrability and the great stiffness of the bikes ensure continuous propulsion and optimum driving characteristics. Thanks to the most modern manufacturing technologies, the aluminium frames of the current models are almost as light as the competition made of carbon. Tubes with multiple butt joints provide enormous weight savings without adversely affecting stability.
Large selection
There are no limits to the equipment. From the beginner's bike, to the comprehensible price, up to the professional bike with Ultegra rear derailleur, the manufacturers serve almost all wishes. The purpose of use is also taken into account and models with a neutral and comfortable seating position are available, as well as pure racers with a compact design. Racing bikes are traditionally the "flagship" of a bike manufacturer and so it is not surprising that these bikes are available in all colours and the best designs. For the understatement enthusiast there are also more subdued models.
Disc brake as new standard
When the first road bikes with disc brakes came onto the market a few years ago, there was a great outcry. The particularly traditional segment of racing bikes has always relied on the classic rim brake. The clear advantages of a disc brake (significantly better brake force distribution, uniform braking effect) were ignored. The first models still had problems with lateral forces caused by the air resistance of the disc. In the meantime, all models are fitted with special brakes that are perfectly suited for use on a road bike. The slightly higher weight of the system should only be a disadvantage for professionals. Please note that according to the current statutes of the UCI a bike with disc brakes is not approved for official races.
The tour, the commute to work or a race?
Road bikes have been enjoying new popularity for some years now. Mountain bikes have long been "misused" for many purposes. But whoever encounters mainly paved roads on the way to work, the weekend tour around the lake, shopping in the city centre or cycling through the Alps, often wastes a lot of energy. With a road bike and its 28 inch tyres, the same distances are much faster and less strenuous to master. Anyone who has ever felt the difference will repeatedly choose a racing bike for the road and cycle paths. With the correct frame size and saddlebags, these bikes are also a sporty alternative to touring bikes.
